Sometimes… it’s ok |
Sometimes it is completely appropriate to be impolite.
No, Seriously. Politeness, at times is an affront to one’s true feelings. If you are in a situation where politeness would TRULY be damaging to self esteem, cause excessive dissonance or psychological damage… Then it is appropriate, allowable and NECESSARY to eschew politeness. This is a form of standing up for yourself.
I am not advocating that you use this as carte blanche to be an ass. Only use this when it is necessary. You are Autistic/Aspie… sometimes, you get a buy. What is important here is that we have to take care of ourselves before we can take care of anything else…
Keep your eyes open.
Seriously… pat attention to what’s going on around you. We have a tendency to hide in a corner and ignore those things that do not agree with our personal paradigm. This is a bad idea. You miss a lot, and can alienate those around you… Specifically, those who support you.
When life gives you a lemon, say ‘Lemons? I like lemons. What else have you got?
Everybody says “Make lemonade.” We are designed to think differently… Do it. Often, conforming to a societal expectation is a bad idea. If you like lemons, take the lemons. If you don’t like lemons, send them back. Lemonade is bad for you anyway.
Beware of all enterprises that require new clothes.
Seriously… if you have a wardrobe that you are comfortable in, don’t stray from it. If you take a job, or a social event that forces you into a different wardrobe, you will be uncomfortable in it. What’s funny is that (most of the time) NTs can’t read us at all, but if we are uncomfortable, their lizard brain will pick up on it and they will be completely unable to be comfortable in our presence. Stay within your comfort zone… NO MATTER WHAT.
All the technologies you take for granted were created by living, breathing, thinking, dreaming human beings just like you.
The reason I tell you this is because all things are possible with creativity, power and ingenuity… and you have it. So, don’t EVER let them get you down. You are intelligent, powerful and see things from a different perspective… Use these traits… NEVER STOP using these traits.
The reason people get lost in thought is because it is, to many, rather unfamiliar territory.
Most people don’t think. They are not designed for it. I know this sounds cruel… but it is accurate. The human animal is designed to survive on instinct alone. We have gotten past our roots and live in a world that requires thought… since most are not equipped for it, it is hard for them. Aspies, on the whole, think a lot more than the average human being. Take a moment to realize that they don’t… get over it and move on.
A truly wise man never plays leapfrog with a Unicorn.
Often, with a little forethought, we can see what is coming up. Life consists of a series of happenings… Cause, effect, effect. If you think about what you are doing… think two steps up the chain, we can prevent the truly painful events in our life. So… think and don’t jump into stupid situations and you won’t get stabbed in the butt.
Being proud of how many books you’ve read is the surest sign you haven’t read nearly enough.
Achieve. Always strive to be better. Do better, make something of yourself, learn… always keep learning… But don’t brag about it. No matter how much you learn. No matter how much you do, there is always someone out there that is smarter than you and will have done more than you.
No man is an island, but then no man is a potato salad, either.
Everyone tries to tell us that we need to be social. That we can’t exist alone… we have to have a social group, have to go out and do something, go out and be with people… Most times, they use the old adage, “No man is an island.” Well, I’m not a potato salad… or a box, chopped liver or Luc Beson… or a crouton. Well…I might be a crouton – all quanta being equal, I can’t tell… but I don’t know what any of that has to do with anything… So… be an island if you want… or a crouton… I REALLY think we’re all croutons.
“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” ~Thomas Edison
Anything worth having is worth working for. Plain and simple. So many people spend their lives waiting for it to “happen to them.” Screw that. It only happens through perseverance… when opportunity knocks, grab a shovel, put on your work boots and SWEAT.
